Tintypes

T-467. COOL HAT. They don't make those anymore. The marks on this tin are only visible at an angle. $15

T-465. BROOM BADGE. I'm not sure what the broom and the ribbon mean and the text on the ribbon is only nearly readable. I'm guessing the stogie-smoking gent might have been allied with a certain political party? The image has light marks with a few heavier scratches. $45
T-466. FOUR FOR 25 CENTS. What a deal! This image is in nice condition with a few light marks. I think the studio was in Baltimore. $18
T-469. PHILADELPHIA BOY. The photographer here was J.R. Applegate of Philadelphia. You could get 12 of this type of tintype for 50 cents. An even better deal. The tin is in nice condition. $10
T-468. SISTERS. They wear matching dresses and the resulting tintype is a nice one. There are marks on the surface and an old bend at the lower left corner. $10
T-470. WITH HER TOYS. Judging by the toys (note the kewpie doll), the odd size (3 x 4.5) and the other tins that came with it, this image was made perhaps in the 1910s or 1920s. The image is marked up but I think this is partially from the maker not being familiar with the process. Each of the images I had was dark and had various issues. This one has some light bends and dings as well as the marks. $115
Postcards

RPPC-527. LOVELY PROFILE. This postcard is beautiful. There is some silvering at the edges and the cancellation has made a mark at the lower left. It was mailed in Germany in 1906. $20
RPPC-529. NEAT BORDER. I do like borders and this one is cool. The man's portrait is lightly tinted. There are some light marks on the surface and one scratch on his sleeve. The card was never mailed. $15
CW-605. THE COOK. And that's all I can tell you. It seems we're looking at a campsite though. He wears a long white apron and holds a tin mug and barrel. His hat is a bit odd, almost a lady's hat? He image is in good condition with a little corner nudge at the lower right. $20
RPPC-528. SHE LOOKS TALL. It's probably just the angle and cropping, but doesn't this woman look gigantic? I love the inexpert tinting and that striped skirt. The image has just a few light marks. $30
CW-604. A NIFTY TRICK. They must have practiced this one! Yikes! Was this the backyard of circus folk? As you can see, the card is a bit dirty, but the image is clear, although there is some dirt there as well. $20
RPPC-531. RENO COUSIY. His last name could also be "Cousin" as there is a bit of a flourish there. Regardless, the photos were taken at a studio in Algiers on August 25, 1925. I couldn't find anything about Reno online. He is quite dashing though... Each image is in good condition but my favorite is the 3/4 profile, of course. $95
RPPC-530. EGGS. An interesting still life. I wonder what the eggs were all about? The card has a nice brown tone and a few light marks. $65
Cartes de Visites & Cabinet Cards

CDV-583. RAISED VIGNETTE. This image is by F.A. Simonds of Chillicothe, OH. It is in nice condition but for the clipped corners. $12
CDV-582. BROTHERS. The little one moved just a bit and boy is he pouting! The image has light marks and its corners are just slightly clipped. The photographer was R.J.M. Little of Columbia, PA. $14
CDV-584. DIMINUATIVE BOY. I don't think he's a midget, but the scale of the painted backdrop and the camera's placement makes him look tiny. Then there is his decidedly adult suit, cane and top hat. Parts of the backdrop and his jewelry are tinted gold and the chair the furniture has some brown tinting. The photographer was W.H. Moor of Marion, OH. The image is cropped top and bottom and has light marks. $40
CDV-234. SWEDISH SOLDIER. This image is quite nice. The man really fills the frame. Rudolf Pettersson decided to retouch the edge of the backdrop and the floor to make the progression seamless. A good try. There are just a few marks on the surface. $20
CDV-580. BALTIMORE CATHOLIC. A priest or bishop? I don't know who the guy was. The photographer was Bendann. His blindstamp is in the lower left. He was a prominent Baltimore photographer. The only other info is a handwritten note "Frank to Mama 1878." The image is in nice condition. It looks like Bendann shot the scene outside of a church (see the churchish window) and then added a few things of his own (drape, table) and some of the subject's (cross, books, cloth, pillow, background chair). $50
CDV-581. STATUE. I'm guessing that there is a frontal view of this sculpture somewhere. The photographer was Carl Abel (see bottom of pediment in left photo). His info is nearly unreadable in the other photo. Nothing is on the back of either image. Each has good tone with light marks. $40
CC-609. WITH A DONKEY. Did the smiling woman draw the donkey? Had they been playing pin the tail on the donkey? It's an odd cabinet card, which means I like it! Davis was the photographer, but that's all the info his or her stamp gives us. The image has light marks. $95
CC-606. GRACIE WASHBURN. Gracie was an actress and here she is seen as Eva in "Uncle Tom's Cabin", part of Stetson's Uncle Tom Co. She's certainly struck the pose of today's actresses. The image has light marks. $75
CC-608. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER. No photographer is listed. The image has some light marks that show up a bit more than the usual because I think the photo has some gloss. $14
CC-607. ROBIN HOOD? When I bought this image, I though it was a woman, but, if it's Robin Hood, I suppose an actor could have added a curly wig... Hmm hmm. Some boots, huh? The image is in nice condition. $70
CC-610. SPRINGFIELD FAMILY. This image has just a few light marks. The father holds a CDV album. $14
CC-605. CONSTABLE. I love the police officer standing with his billy club on the left. Was he about to disrupt the photographer because he was clogging a "busy" street? The man on the wagon kept his team really still. I don't know what was in his wagon - water? The only readable sign says "Cheep Ca..." There is also one featuring a horse. The local was Haverhill, MA and judging from the landscape, I bet the street led down to the river. The name Arthur G. Clay is written on the back. The image is in good condition with light marks. $150
Other Photos

OP-581. PHOTO BUTTON. The image inside the lovely border has green tinting only, fitting with the springy theme, I suppose. The button measures 6 x 8 and is in nice condition. $55
SNAP-332. HER BACK. I love this image. It's just so odd! The pattern, the belt, the thin trees, the seamed stockings! The snapshot is CDV sized and in good condition. $30
OP-582. GIRLS WITH EMPTY CHAIR. What a great pair of images! The composition works because of the flowered cloth, I think. The girls wear matching dresses and but with different collar pins. Note that the older girl has adopted a more adult hairstyle. Each image is roughly 5 x 7. There is scant cropping on each. $65
OP-583. CHILDREN OF UNCLE RUFUS. But we don't know their names... The photographer was the New York and Dore Photograph Gallery of San Francisco. The small (3 x2) image has some light wear. $14
SNAP-333. WAREHOUSES. I don't know where these images were snapped, but it looks like we're seeing the backsides of warehouses or small factories. I like the perspectives. Each 3.25 square image has light marks and is unmounted. Each also has a stamp identifying it as an Adhesive Solio Print by the Eastman Kodak Co. The backs could be moistened for easy placement in an album. $30
OP-586. LOVELY COLORING. What a bright photobooth image! It's in nice condition. $20
SNAP-335. SWIMMERS. They weren't perfectly posed, but that makes the image more fun. It is in good condition and measures 4 x 5. $22
OP-585. SCHOOL PHOTOS. They are identical. The strip is in good condition and measures nearly 1.5 x 6. $12
CW-606. MOM AND BABY. I like the pose and her lace dress. The image is in nice condition and measures 3.25 x 7.5. $24
CW-607. AT THE WELL. I've never seen this particular type of paper frame before, for the 3.5 square photo. The photos are in good condition and the frames are too, with the two of the well having pinholes at the top center. Some names are scribbled on the back of each frame. The signs to their left say something about everybody liking a particular type of soap. In the well photo without the bucket, the woman on the right holds a camera. $35
SNAP-334. FRONT AND BACK. While it seems that both of these images were taken the same day, one has a date of 1902 and the other, 1903. Perhaps a mistake... The images are 4.75 x 4.75 and in nice condition. $38
OP-584. PHOTOMATIC. I love this particular image because the woman is blurred. The image has nothing on the back and the photo has a few marks. The frame has a bit of rust. $35
CW-603. LOTS OF FLOWERS. What a nice composition! The photographer was Anders Olsson of Sandviken. The photo is in nice condition and comes in a 9.5 x 6.25 folder that has some wear. $28
OP-587. LOVELY TINTING. The colors here are quite nice; her dress has many layers of them. I love the shadows' purple tones. The Native American woman carries a basket on her head and a baby on her back. I know nothing about the location, photographer, or colorist, except for the initials S.M.S. at the lower left. The 6 x 9.75 image is in nice condition. From the back, it looks like it might have once been in a folder. $145
