Ambrotypes

DAD-56. LILACS. Well, we know this image was taken in the spring. The lilacs are very subtly tinted purple, the leaves green. The sixth plate ambrotype is in nice condition. It comes in a case with a split spine. $135

A-127. WIDE EYES. While the baby must have been squirming, her mom managed to keep her still for the length of the exposure. The sixth plate ambro is in good condition, with light tinting on their cheeks. The case is whole, but the spine is not very strong. $75
A-126. GEORGE E. CHENOWETH. Coming with this lovely sixth plate ambro of young George is a hand lettered calling card. He was a New Yorker, it seems. The date on the card is 1857 while in the case it's 1858. Regardless the hand is the same so perhaps he made the card before the image. I can't make out the other name in the case, perhaps it was the ambrotypist? This ambro is in perfect condition and the tinting is very nice. $135
Tintypes

T-438. BIG BELLY. This tintype is just great. The guy has character. As you might know, I also like seeing plants in photos. The tin is not perfect in condition, but sometimes you have to accept that. $15
T-437. ON A SWING. It looks like the colorist only had green and red because that's what we see here. I like the folksy backdrop too. The tin has some light marks, nothing major. $45
CW-571. LOVELY. What a great pose! The lighting is also fabulous. Their cheeks and hands are lightly tinted. The image has light marks and some emulsion cracks, nothing major. $28
T-436. PLANTS AND HATS. The plants here seem to be dead though, with the leaves a bit droopy. Many of the women smile. The tin has a few marks and gentle bends. $30
CW-572. MISCUT FLOWERS. Yep, those flowers shouldn't really be at the top of the tintype. Made with a multi-lens camera, this tin was cut incorrectly. I like the effect though. The image has light marks. $32
T-439. WRINKLES. You can see nearly every one here. The tin had great contrast and some light marks. $12
T-440. SLIGHT CHANGES. There is not much of a difference between these two tintypes in the posing. But, if you look closely, you will see that the horse moved its tail. The darker tin reveals an interesting ivy on the side of the barn. Both tins are in nice condition with only very light marks. Each is smaller than CDV size. $75
Other Photos

OP-542. PHOTOMATIC. This is a great image. The little kid just floats in all that black. The image has some light marks and comes in a blue cardboard frame. $50
OP-546. ARTFULLY VERTICAL. What great composition! The photographer was Bullock of Northfield, VT. The image is in nice condition and the folder measures 3.5 x 10. $25
RPPC-110. THE PIERROTS. Were they professional entertainers or just out for a good time? The photographer was A. Barratt, Press Photographer of London so perhaps that tells us that these folks could have been famous. The photo is nice and the people happy. $22
SNAP-300. WHERE IS IT? I don't know, but it has the feeling of a tourist photo, early 20th century. The image measures 3.5 x4 and is in good condition but for a few edge chips. $20
RPPC-505. LIBERTY BELL. That whole pillow is Philadelphia-themed. The postcard is in nice condition. $15
SNAP-301. VERY ODD. Is it a Victorian scarecrow? A dummy for some kind of play? This is one weird - and wonderful - little cyanotype. The 2.25 x 3.25 image is in good condition. $55
SNAP-299. DOWN THE SLIDE. The sign above the opening reads, "Adams's Mills". Each snap is 3.25 x 2.25 and has light marks. $10
SNAP-298. NEW YEAR'S EVE. Was Ray Densler off to war in 1945? Was this a last evening with Jean Swick? I have no idea. Ray stayed still for what was probably a longish exposure and Jean moved a bit, making this even more of a moody shot. The 3.5 x 4.5 snap has a few marks. $25
RPPC-504. AFTER A FIRE. The back is dated January 9th 1912 so I'm guessing one could do a bit of research and figure out where this was. I think it could be New York, judging by the Metropolitan tram with the sign that says 'Broadway'. But, who knows? The postcard is pretty neat and in nice condition. $35
SNAP-297. SHADOWS. Shadows and a funny looking woman. The 2.75 x 4.5 snap is in good condition. $20
OP-549. A FLASH. I like the shadows and the fact that neither of these ladies could stay still enough for the photo. I wonder what they were laughing about? The woman on the left holds 'Outlook' magazine. $15
SNAP-296. ALL DRESSED UP. Can you tell me which play it was? The 4.25 x 3 snap is in good condition. $20
RPPC-502. LOTS OF MAKEUP. And here we have more costumes. The man on the left wears a US belt buckle. The postcard has a few marks. $70
OP-543. FOUR POSES. It seems she was too close to the camera or moved because each photo is a bit off. The images are in good condition. $15
OP-547. ELEANOR. Eleanor Latham Morgan was born on October 1, 1908 and died 5 days after her second birthday, the day this photo was probably taken. This memorial image is quite lovely. The mount measures 8 x 6. The photo has a few marks. $35
RPPC-47. FLOWER GAZING. That's a big rose this girl is staring at. She also has a pretty big bow. The postcard is in fine condition. $22
RPPC-503. ANOTHER PHOTOGRAPHER. This is the Edgecomb Block House in Maine. The postcard has a stamp on the back from Labbie's Picture and Gift Shop of Wiscasset, Maine. The photo is in nice condition. $95
OP-548. PAINTING COPY. Interestingly, the woman in the painting seems to be wearing a photo pin, or a painted miniature. The photo is in good condition with a few marks. The dark area around her is probably from an old mat. The image measures 6.5 x 8.5. $25
OP-545. DANIEL T. WEIDNER. This 1939 folder photo is nicely tinted. The folder measures 5.5 x 8.5. $15
RPPC-506. GREAT COLORS. This French postcard is in nice condition. $28
OP-544. PHOTO STRIP. What a great set of images! The strip is mounted on a custom card measuring 9 x 5. $85
Cartes de Visites & Cabinet Cards

CW-577. AT THE WINDOW. This is one of the better fake windows I've seen. The photographer was J.I. Ream of Van Wert, OH. The image is in good condition. $20
CDV-553. ACTOR. According to the back, he was Joe Emmel. The photo is by Gurney and as a pasted label from Gihon & Thompson's Photographic and Stereoscopic Emporium in Philadelphia. The image has a few marks and I wonder why whatever he was leaning against was cropped out? $28
CDV-556. FIRST COMMUNION. This image is by B. Corn of Cleveland and has light marks and fade. $8
CDV-554. GREAT EARRINGS. I don't know where Theo. E. King worked. This photo is in nice condition. $10
CDV-146. WHAT IS IT? I'm not sure what kind of pole little Emma Pfaff is holding. It has a nosegay attached to the top and a point at the bottom. Was it for May Day? I love the backdrop, floor, and shiny rocks. The image has good tone and generally good condition. It is by Steinberger & Bauer of Frankfurt, Germany. $30
CDV-555. PREACHER. This unidentified CDV is in good condition. $25
CDV-339. ARTFUL PRESENTATION. I especially like the thick, gold border. The photographer was C.H. Taylor of Fairview, IL. There are a few marks on the surface and a little fade. I wonder what the flowers were for? $45
CW-576. CUTE! This boy and dog image is very cute. Both subjects stayed still. The image is in nice condition but for an inconsequential bend in the lower right corner. $60
CW-574. SPRING CITY BAND. The deceased must have been in the band. The image has light marks. $45
CC-587. WITH A PHOTO. Unfortunately you can't quite see the image of a woman. The photographer was McAdam Bros. of Mt. Peasant, Iowa. $14
CC-185. LOVELY. Hardy was an excellent photographer and this profile is very well lit and executed. I love her lacy collar and large pearls. The image is in good condition. $25
CC-95. AMAZING. Amazing that A.J. Fisher of Towanda, PA managed to get these kids to stay still and touch heads for their photograph. This cabinet card is in very nice condition, with just a little yellowing on the outer edges. The youngest child wears a pin that says "BABY". $22
CW-573. TAMPA IMAGE. You don't often see Florida cabinet cards. This one is of Sumner Hinkley and his wife. They are looking at a photo album. Note the tropical background. The image is in good condition. $42
CC-588. LORD'S PRAYER. This is a lovely cabinet card. I've had one other variant of this image, where the anchor was replaced with a waterfall. This example is in nice condition and was copyrighted in 1885. $225
