| SR2 & SR3. A SIREN'S SONG. You can plainly see, what began as an innocent relationship between young people during a chess match, as drawn and copied onto two monumental half plate daguerreotypes, was cunningly turned into an affair of the hearts once the board was removed. This pair of half plate dags over matted to 6 3/4 by 8 inches by a period brass mat was placed inside a recent dark paper mat with two windows. They are displayed one over the other in a modern gold metal frame surrounding the entire package. The dags were copied from engravings. The sharpness and clarity of the images is astounding! Kim Iocovozzi, an art and daguerreotype dealer in Savannah GA suggested that the artist was possibly a 19th century Italian Romanticist Francisco Beda. I will allow the next owner to proceed with further research. There is hazy patina on both surfaces. Mat abrasions are more prominently seen on the plate showing the seduction of the young gentleman. Along with the daguerreotypes are two lithophanes showing the identical images, which are much bolder and more detailed when, examined properly. Please visit The Blair Museum of Lithophanes web site for a description of the process. The framed images, with outside measurements of 11 x 17.5 inches and the lithophanes are sold together. $5,000 |
