| D10-171. GRANNY'S VISIT. I wonder where the elderly lady lived? Did she have to travel far from her hamlet to engage a daguerreotypist to produce her rudimentary resealed sixth plate image circa 1848-1849? She was very uncertain about the process when she sat nervously in front of a small town or itinerant operator. The light entered the tiny space from the right side and because she was seated so close to the cloth backdrop that is her shadow filling the left side of the image. The leather case, with an impression of flowers, is signed "Pretlove". He was the diesinker who created the theme. A piece of fabric was used years ago to rebind the two halves back together. There are mold spiders on the surface and a faint brown circle on the lady's shoulder. That is an old mat scrape on the upper left side in the tarnish. $165 |
