| D08-44. "L.R.CARPENTER A. 5" . . . The brown specks seen in my scan of Miss Carpenter's archivally sealed sixth plate are much less noticeable as she is admired in hand. The child was taken to the closest rural daguerreotypist available for her memory to be recorded on silver. As an added inducement, the five year old was permitted to pose with her favorite China head doll. Direct no nonsense blast light bathed the doll and child, creating hot spots on the painted chair she sat upon. That cloth draped table and single book on top seem unnecessary don't you think? The maker found pink pigment in his limited box of colors and painted her face and arms, along with bright gold for her jewelry. Ample patina flows freely inside the brass oval mat. One brown spot is on her dress. I placed the primitive effort in a nice late 1840s leather case that matches the date of the effort. $875 |
