D08-21. TIGHT SQUEEZE! The loving couple was pushed backwards almost against the daguerreotypist's cloth when they posed for their newly taped quarter plate. The operator moved his camera as far away from them as possible and still nearly lopped off the top of the gent's head when that scalloped mat was used to frame them. The shadow between them was cast from the female since they were lit from a window light on the right side. Because the gent's outline isn't visible on his left, I think the fabric ran away from them and actually caught a second source of brightness on that side, which minimized their alternative selves. What a classic all American pose for these youthful adults, who are starting their lives together in matrimonial bliss or having a daguerreotype made as brother and sister for their parents. The next keeper of the silver palette, held in a leather case that's apart, can make that judgment. Faint brown dots and speckled patina are on the surface, which does have a blue hue. A mold spider is on the fellow's jacket. Gold embellishes her ring and brooch. Flesh toned colors remain on their skin. $135
